Asia has emerged as the growth pole of the global economy; as such, the sustainability of its economic development process is crucial for the well-being of its people and is thus in the greater interests of the world. Harmonising environmental concerns with rapid economic development will ensure sustainability of Asian economic progress in the long run.This volume discusses issues that are central to this sustainability. He has also been Ford Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellow in Economics at Yale University, USA and Visiting Research Fellow, Seoul National University, South Korea.Reena Marwah, Secretary-General of the Association of Asia Scholars, is Associate Professor, Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi. She was awarded the Robert McNamara Fellowship of the World Bank in 1999-2000, and the Asia Fellowship of the Asian Scholarship Foundation in 2002-3. She is the author of Indian Economy, Society and Polity (co-authored; 2010).
